The Village of Allenspark, Colorado

Along one of Colorado’s most beautiful scenic by-ways, the rustic mountain village of Allenspark sits at the top of the St Vrain Canyon and looks out on majestic Long’s Peak.  Almost all of the buildings of the town are vintage log cabins, many dating back to the turn of the century.

While here, you may want to take notice of these treasures:

Meadow Mountain Café:  a log structure painted purple and yellow, this popular town gathering place serves a scrumptious breakfast and lunch.  Outfitted with a pot belly stove, built of pine logs, its interior is warm and cozy.  . . and usually full.  Cinnamon-scented coffee. Giant fluffy pancakes (hint: order *one* per kid). Yummy omelets. Thick toast made from home-baked bread – it gets five stars from internet raters far and wide.

The Fawn Brook Inn:  Award-winning international 5-star cuisine is served in this rustic lodge.  The restaurant thrives with a clientele that comes from all over the world to experience the magical experience of dining at the Fawn Brook Inn - the quaint log cabin nestled in the town of Allenspark, Colorado, surrounded by the beautiful Rocky Mountains. www.fawnbrookinn.com

Crystal Spring:  Allenspark is blessed with a natural spring of delicious drinking water.  You’ll find the spring across the street from the Meadow Mountain Café.  You’ll need a container (preferably an insulated one) to collect the water and tote it away.  It is free.  The ca.bin water is good and micro-filtered, but this Spring is a cut above

Allenspark  Community Church – This quaint church is interdenominational and its striking log structure is an architectural centerpiece of Allenspark.  Each of its stained glass windows represents a different Colorado Wildflower.  It holds church services every Sunday and has an active, friendly membership.  For worship times, call (303) 747-2821

St Malo Chapel – A medieval style chapel built on a massive rock is a stunning sight easily visible on Hwy 7 between Allenspark and Estes Park.  http://www.saintmalo.org/chapel.htm

Wild Basin Entrance to the Rocky Mountain National Park -- 3.7 miles from the cabin gives access to famous trails and lakes:  Copeland Falls, Thunder Lakes Trailhead, Calypso Cascades, Ouzel Falls, Ouzel Lake, Bluebird Lake, Thunder Lake, Lion Lakes, Snowbank Lake, and more.

St Vrain Market, Deli and Bakery in Lyons (a small town on the way to the cabin)  This very small store offers local and fresh groceries, produce, all-natural/organic meat and dairy, deli and bakery.  My favorite – their daily-fresh homemade pies and breads.

Gold Hill Inn – In a tiny mining village between Boulder and Allenspark is this 1924 log building serving six course gourmet meals, with the menu reflecting the seasonal offerings of the local markets. The generous 6 courses are offered for $35.00 this season, with a unique wine list and full bar to complement your meal. In addition they offer various musical evenings throughout the summer. www.goldhillinn.com.  Open between May and December

Allenspark is in a perfect location between Denver and the Rocky Mountain National Park – just 1 1/2 hours from the Denver International Airport.   Surrounded by the Roosevelt National Forest, the cabin is in a beautiful and secluded location, close to trails and the tourist activities of Estes Park which is just 14 miles away.
